The Provincial System Support Program

Ontarians access mental health and addictions help from many different services and sectors. That means a coordinated approach to support people affected by these issues is vital to ensure the best possible outcomes.

The Provincial System Support Program (PSSP) works together with partners across Ontario to improve the way those who experience mental illnesses and addictions access services. In support of Ontario’s Comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy, we move evidence to action, and have expertise in areas such as:

  • Knowledge exchange
  • Implementation models and techniques
  • Training and skill development
  • Information management
  • Health equity and engagement
  • Evaluation

PSSP is located at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Canada's largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital, as well as one of the world's leading research centres in its field. CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, and is a Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Centre.

CAMH combines clinical care, research, education, policy development and health promotion to help transform the lives of people affected by mental health and addiction issues.

The system improvement work reflected on this site is funded by the Government of Ontario in support of the province’s Comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy. The Staged Screening and Assessment and Ontario Perception of Care projects were originally funded through Health Canada’s Drug Treatment Funding Program.

Our Implementation Work

Our teams use best practices in implementation, helping communities use evidence to improve the system of care for individuals and families with mental health and addictions needs.

Through our implementation work, we have helped communities to improve the system for youth in transition between services and sectors, effectively screen for and assess addictions issues, and identify and refer justice-involved youth to appropriate supports.

We invite you to explore over 20 implementation projects around the province focusing on a variety of system improvement initiatives.
